The reporters are mostly caught in the background in occasional shots, but the dealers are right there in all of the action, usually covered by two or three cameras on the table. I covered the mixed games as a reporter last year, the better dealers tend to work the mixed games, and they tend to be the dealers assigned to feature tables, so many of them are familiar.<\/p>\n<p>None of them is as well known to me as\u00a0<strong>Devin Sweet<\/strong>, though, because there&#8217;s no need to go to Las Vegas to see her in action. She&#8217;s been around Portland as a dealer and player (she won an event at Pendleton in 2011), she&#8217;s been involved in managing the Chinook Winds series for several years, and she was up in the early rotation for coverage of Day 1B on at the Main Event, dealing to <strong>Jamie Gold <\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Scott Abrams<\/strong>. So keep an eye out for her as the tournament plays out.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutantpoker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/caviaraffair-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2031 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutantpoker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/caviaraffair-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"171\" height=\"393\" \/><\/a>Not Gonna Happen<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>July issue of <em>CardPlayer<\/em><\/strong> magazine has a bizarre ad for the\u00a0<strong>World Heavyweight Poker Championship Invitational<\/strong>, with a &#8220;100 Entry Cap | Largest Buy-In | Largest Prize Pool&#8221; and &#8220;Largest First Prize Payout in Poker Tournament History.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Supposedly taking place in Reno in mid-December the &#8220;Biggest Fundraiser Poker Charity Event in History&#8221; (it doesn&#8217;t mention a charity for <em>what<\/em>)\u00a0sports a $1,888,888 buyin, and more than $30M for first place.<\/p>\n<p>I have to say, despite the fact that I do not expect anyone reading this to be planning to play it, the general vibe\u2014not to mention the quality of the materials and the fact that social media for sponsor\u00a0<em>Caviar Affair<\/em> hasn&#8217;t been active for four years\u2014doesn&#8217;t inspire a lot of confidence.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2029\" style=\"width: 277px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutantpoker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/oneal.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2029\" class=\"wp-image-2029\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutantpoker.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/oneal.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-2029\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Rachel O&#8217;Neal<\/strong>&#8216;s Facebook post of her stack in <strong>WSOP Event #66: $1,500 NLHE<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em><strong>#PNWPokerLeaderboard<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>James Tercek<\/b> from Vancouver was top of the new names in this week&#8217;s Pacific Northwest\u00a0<strong>Hendon Mob\u00a0<\/strong>stats, making it to 13th place in the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pokerdb.thehendonmob.com\/event.php?a=r&amp;n=444483\">Ultimate Goliath<\/a><\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pokerdb.thehendonmob.com\/event.php?a=r&amp;n=444483\"> at\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/pokerdb.thehendonmob.com\/event.php?a=r&amp;n=444483\"><strong>Planet Hollywood<\/strong><\/a> at the end of June.The $600 tournament beat the $500K GTD by nearly $160K, with $1,078 entries.<\/p>\n<p>Forest Grove&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Nathan Paul<\/strong> got his first recorded cash in a big way, taking 4th in last Saturday&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsop.com\/promotions\/files\/july8_2pm_$235_deepstack.pdf\"><strong>$235 Daily Deepstack<\/strong><\/a> at the Rio.\u00a0<strong>Stevie Ackerman<\/strong> of Spanaway more than tripled his recorded tournament earnings by taking first in the same event.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rachel O&#8217;Neal<\/strong> is a Portland attorney who uses the slogan <a href=\"http:\/\/www.onealfirm.com\"><strong>\u201cMake Them Pay \u2014 In Spades\u201d<\/strong><\/a> on her web site. She&#8217;s been playing poker for a while, but took down her first three recorded cashes on three consecutive days last week (technically). She made it to the final table of a 948-entry\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsop.com\/promotions\/files\/july4_2pm_$235_deepstack.pdf\">$235 Daily Deepstack<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>on the 4th of July (one of two O&#8217;Neals at the final table; the other was from Georgia). On the 5th of July, she played\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsop.com\/tournaments\/results.asp?grid=1352&amp;tid=15666&amp;dayof=5719\"><strong>Event #66: $1,500 NLHE<\/strong><\/a>, grabbing 80th place on Day 2 (6 July, but it&#8217;s recorded at Hendon Mob as the starting day). Then she apparently jumped right into the 7pm <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsop.com\/promotions\/files\/july6_7pm_$365_deepstackI.pdf\"><strong>$365 Daily Deepstack Turbo<\/strong><\/a>, taking 44th there for a small cash. After a couple of days of no cashes (maybe she had to rest) she struck again, at the\u00a0<strong>Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza Event #87 $100K GTD Bounty<\/strong>, for another 44th place (there were 464 entries, with a prize pool of $150K plus $93K in bounties.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Late regging the 25k PLO 125k chips @ 3k and I have 10% to sell at face if anyone wants it?<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; E-TAY (@e_tay) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/e_tay\/status\/883021807443296256?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 6, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The elephant in the room for established players this week is\u00a0<strong>Esther Taylor<\/strong>. There were some comments in a Facebook thread last week wondering how someone like her could be playing in the\u00a0<strong>Poker Players Championship<\/strong>. I&#8217;ve never met her at the table (or anywhere else) before working at the WSOP last summer, and all I can say is she seemed to be shooting me suspicious looks whenever I was reporting on her tables. She&#8217;s had a pretty good summer, though, making three final tables before the 4th of July, as well as four other cashes. Then, the day after the 4th, she got to the final table o<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pokernews.com\/tours\/wsop\/wsop-2017\/event-67-pot-limit-omaha-high-roller\/chips.177062.htm\">f\u00a0<strong>Event #67: $25,000 PLO8 High Roller<\/strong><\/a>, and finished in 3rd place, a cash that was more than half the size of her previous recorded earnings and which jumps her over 4 players on the Hendon Mob&#8217;s\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/pokerdb.thehendonmob.com\/ranking\/3471\/#30\">Oregon<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>leaderboard. With Taylor no longer actually living in Vancouver (so I&#8217;ve hears),\u00a0<strong>James Romero<\/strong> moved to Vegas, and\u00a0<strong>Annie Duke\u00a0<\/strong>somewhere else (who cares?),\u00a0<strong>Seth Davies<\/strong> (in 4th place on the Oregon leaderboard) is now the top-ranked player on the state leaderboard who actually lives here. By the way, just before she late-regged the PLO tournament, Taylor took 4th place in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pokernews.com\/tours\/wsop\/wsop-2017\/event-64-8-handed-mix\/chips.176157.htm\"><strong>Event #64: $1,500 NLHE\/PLO 8-Max<\/strong><\/a> for a 5600% ROI.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the\u00a0PPC, Washington&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ian Johns <\/strong>has almost doubled the number of cashes he had last year\u2014though 2016&#8217;s \u00a0four cashes included 2 bracelets. He hasn&#8217;t seen any final tables this year, but he&#8217;s come close all seven times, finishing between 18th and 17th on two cashes and between 10th and 12th on the other five.
